Orange You Glad?

Naturally, I'm a blonde. I've never dyed my hair fully. I've only ever highlighted it. Why? Because I love my blonde hair. It looks good on me, and that's the color that I'm used to.

Now, que pregnancy. Those dang hormones turned my hair an icky, dirty brown. It's not even a cute brown. It honestly looks like my hair needs to be washed CONSTANTLY. So, what do I do? I dye it. I get a box of blonde coloring and carve out an hour of my life to perk my hair up again.

After applying the color the best I can, I have to sit around for 25 minutes while I unintentionally get high from the fumes. Ding! Time to rinse! Scrub scrub. Wash wash. Holycowitsorange.

That's right, my friends. Brown hair doesn't dye blonde very well. It turns a wonderful shade of coppery orange. I. Am. Stylin'.

Granted, it's not my whole head. But my roots are now extremely noticeable. Seriously. I see you eyeing my scalp as you talk to me. Just ignore it.

But wait! Here's the best part! I can't go to the salon to fix it while I have my baby with me. I honestly had no idea. Apparently if I have to pick her up at all, the colorist will stop and I'll look like Cruella DeVille. Now, my mother lives two hours this way. Nick's mother lives one hour that way. And everyone else I know around here either already has kids or lives too far away to warrant driving out there. Translation: I'm stuck like this until next weekend.

At least Alexa still recognizes me.

Sick Daze and Sock Bunz

Sorry, folks.
Still no bump pictures.
Why, you ask?
Because for the past week I've had this awful, phlegm-y, hacking cough, with body aches
and nausea to boot.
But, the real kicker?
NO FEVER.
WTFridge?!

So, needless to say, I've been a real joy to be around.
My mom, (bless her heart) since Nick has been out of town, has been running around getting me medicine and soup and offering to do my dishes.
She's the best mom ever.

I've pretty much quarantined myself in my apartment.
I've been super cold and unable to keep anything down.
But suddenly,
like, 10 minutes ago,
I got really warm.
REALLY warm.
And THIRSTY.
Like, OMGOSH thirsty.
I think I'm on my third glass of water in ten minutes.
Hopefully that means I'm getting better.

Have you ever been super sick
to the point where you have, like, no energy
to even make yourself a pb&j
much less shower?
So, consequently, you don't shower for days?
Yeah.
I feel much better after showering.
But not jump-up-for-joy-and-shout-hooray better.

On another note:
I'm trying this "Sock Bun" method of curling my hair.
I will also not be taking any pictures of me with this in since it doesn't look nearly as cute on me
as it does on her.
And by "not nearly as cute" I mean, it looks terrible.
But, anyways, I'll let you know how it turns out in the morning.
Because my hair is shoulder length, it may not turn out very cute.
*sigh*

Friday's Letters

Dear Crankypants at Church: I'm very sorry that I'm not the spitting image of what you expect from a teacher. But, this pregnancy is incredibly difficult for me. I'm sick all the time and I'm trying to wean myself off of a narcotic anti-depressant that I've been addicted to since I was 14 years old. So, I would appreciate it if you would quit judging me.

Dear Sam and Dean Winchester: Why aren't you real?! You would be the coolest people to hang out with!

Dear Cold/Flu/Whateveryouare: You are slowly, but surely, killing me. Please go away asap so that I can remember what it feels like to breathe and/or sit up without passing out. Thaaanks.

Dear Uma Thurman: You gave a bad rep to bloggers everywhere in the movie "Motherhood." Thanks a lot. Now whenever I blog, my husband calls me Uma.

Dear Pregnancy Hormones: Care to share the wealth with my hair? My nails are growing at a superhuman rate, but I don't really care about those.

Dear Nick: I miss you already, and you've been gone for about two hours. What am I going to do with myself for the next three days?! You are an amazing man, and I am so happy that you "saw" me after you  came home from your mission. I cannot imagine my life without you. I love you.

Dear Alexa: Thanks for being strong enough so that daddy can feel you kick. He doesn't think you hate him anymore. Yay! However, could you please stop punching my bladder? Please? It's not very nice.

Dear Readers: If you read my blog, and have a GMail account, why don't you follow? I like knowing that I have an audience. :)

Where's My Hair?

I tend to be incredibly irrational when it comes to my hair.
I get long, pretty hair in the summertime
but it's too hot on my neck
and I end up cutting it all off
juuuuuuust in time for the harsh Minnesota winters.
Smart, Michelle.

And then, all winter long, I'm whining and complaining about how much I miss my hair.
I always do this.
Every. Single. Year.
But I never learn.

I ended up having to get extensions for my wedding.
At first, I loved them.
But, it was too much length
way too fast.
So, after a few weeks, it began to drive me insane.
But I had to suck it up because I paid a good $80 for them to be put in
and I wanted my hair to look stellar for the wedding.

After the reception
Nick and I came home to our brand new apartment.
And before I even let him kiss me
I locked myself in the bathroom
and spent a good hour taking out those blasted extensions.

Two days later, I cut my hair into an a-line bob.
Which looked really cute
for a while.
But the back of my hair ends right at the nape of my neck
and the front comes just a bit below my shoulders.
It's too short.

So, here's my plan for the remainder of my pregnancy:

1. Absolutely no heat styling of any kind.
2. No more using tight, rubber elastics to hold back my hair.
3. Trim hair as soon as possible to ensure maximum health.
4. Exercise regularly and increase protein as well as vitamin c in my diet.
5. NO brushing my hair while it's wet. [Combs only!]

By the time Alexa is born in July, my goal is to have my bangs grown out, and my hair grown out to my chest.
This may or may not happen
but I think eliminating heat from my regimen will help a lot.
